Buying a new home theater system can be a rewarding experience. From planning exactly what gear you need to play back every media format under the sun on your high def screen, to actually hitting the stores and bargaining for the best deal you can, it’s all good. But when you finally get it home, and styrofoam is littering your lounge room, the real fun starts. There are lots of components, and all need to be tweaked and set up just right before they really produce the results.

Setting up surround sound speakers correctly can be one of the more important factors in this equation. You will need to position them carefully, to create the perfect envelope of surround sound. For best results, front speakers should be around 3 feet to the left and right of your TV screen, to widen the apparent source of the sound. The center speaker should be placed as close as possible to the actual TV screen; for most people this means underneath or on top. Subwoofers are a little less critical, but roughly near the front and center will produce the best results. And finally, rear speakers need to be facing inwards, and are best if wall mounted a bit above seated ear level. Note though that some speakers are designed specifically to produce a broader sound. For example, Bose’s Acoustimass 6 speakers project some of the sound away from the front of the speaker enclosure to produce a wider range of sound.

Once the speakers are set up right, adjusting your seating position relative to your TV screen is also important. Your TV screen will have an optimum viewing angle, and for best results you will want to be seated straight on. If you have to allow for multiple viewers, arrange your home theater furniture so that all viewers can see the TV without craning their heads as much as possible. This usually calls for a semi-circular arrangement, which also helps keep all viewers in the best position to get the benefits of your perfectly set up surround speakers!

If you are one of those people that are very demanding when it comes to televisions then a Plasma HDTV is for you. Sets using these type of screen clearly outperform the majority of competing products that use other types of screen technologies including Liquid Crystal Display and DLP. Of course, every type of screen technology has its ups and downs but when it comes to the quality of a picture this is where Plasma sets have a clear advantage.

The whole debate as to which is a better screen type has been floating around the internet for quite some time. The truth is that it really depends on what criteria you put more weight. Plasma HDTVs are the best as far as picture quality is concerned. They have the best contrast ratios, refresh rates and the best black color levels of all HD Tv sets except those that use CRT, which is a technology that is not being used to manufacture high definition television any longer.

The picture that is created by a Plasma set generally looks very solid and defined and does not usually exhibit many of the artifacts that tend to be very visible in LCD Tvs. These artifacts are ghosting, jagged edges around moving objects and the dreaded HDTV blur. Of course there is a possibility that these unwanted artifacts appear from time to time but they are not as overweeningly present as in LCD televisions.

While these sets have the best picture quality, there are some LCD HD Tv sets that do rival them. Some product series including top of the line sets from Samsung can rival them in terms of picture quality, at least they can rival those models that are not as amazing. However, series like Panasonic Viera NeoPDP (New Plasma Display Panel) cannot be rivaled at the moment by any set that is in the market as far as picture quality is concerned.

After searching near and far, you find the LCD television of your dreams. You get it home and figure out the spot you were going to put it in won’t work. So you need to decide whether to take it back for a smaller television, increase the size of the hole above your fireplace, or buy a bigger piece of furniture to accommodate the television. One of the best benefits of an LCD television, however, is the ability to mount it on the wall.

By using an LCD TV bracket, you don’t lose any space inside your living room or basement. This is extremely important in smaller rooms where you don’t have the liberty to lose a good part of the room just for your television. Another benefit is that you get your expensive purchase off the ground away from prying children and pets. Your dog can’t jump at the television to try and get the animal on screen when your TV is mounted with an LCD TV bracket.

Then you can take the LCD TV bracket a step further by adding shelves for your video components. Some manufacturers put out both the matching TV bracket and separate video components shelving while others have a combination bracket that holds both the television and has the shelves attached so it’s in one television bracket. Just pick a style that is good for you and then figure out what type of TV bracket you want.

If you are hanging a television in the recreation room of a basement, the benefit of using an LCD TV bracket is that the television will be able to be viewed all throughout the room versus being tied down to only one area. If you get a full motion TV mount, you can adjust the TV based on the part of the room you are in. Whatever type of TV bracket you get, you will be satisfied with your decision to purchase an LCD TV bracket.

When shopping for a cable or satellite provider, most people start off by looking at price. While what you pay is certainly an important consideration, especially in this economy, it is a good idea to consider a few additional factors before making your choice. Factors such as bundling options and high definition are high on the list for many consumers today.

With satellite TV companies like Direct TV and Dish Network, your packaging options can be a bit limited. These companies offer video service only, so you can’t sign up for a triple play bundle through the satellite television company on its own. Direct TV has made agreements with local phone companies like Qwest and Verizon so that you can get high speed internet and DSL through the telecom provider. Dish Network used to partner with AT&T, but that deal has ended. On the other hand, cable TV companies like Cox communications are able to offer all three services through their coaxial cable. This makes it easier on the customer in that they can deal with one company for billing and service issues.

Satellite TV does have an advantage over cable in most cases when it comes to HD content. Both Dish Network and Direct TV have upwards of 130 hi definition channels, a number that most cable companies don’t come close to. Generally, you will get more HD content in big cities with cable, as they upgrade highly populated areas before they reach rural areas. While the cable vs satellite debate is still being decided, new options are becoming available in many areas. Those options include fiber TV from Verizon with their FiOS product, and AT&T U-verse which also delivers cable channels through existing phone lines. Overall, more competition will hopefully continue to keep a lid on prices for customers in these areas.

Television manufacturers are continually working to find new technologies to enhance the way we view our favourite TV shows, movies and computers games in order to keep ahead of the competition. The latest invention to be born out of this race is the LED Television.

With the LED TV advertising bombardment that consumers are under, informed and impartial LED TV information is what consumers need to arm themselves with in order to make an informed choice when it comes to purchasing their next high definition television. Hopefully this article will go some way towards answering some of the questions and provide a mini LED TV guide.

The first thing the consumer should know is that the term LED TV is perhaps a little misleading. It makes it sound like the methods used to display the picture in LCD TVs have been superseded by a display primarily based on LEDs. This is not the case, however LEDs are what is behind the improvement of picture quality that this new breed of television produces.

The LED television is actually still based around an LCD but rather than using fluorescent lamps to provide the back or side light that makes the image on the LCD panel visible, it now uses many LEDs to provide the light source for the LCD panel. Using LEDs in this way might sound like a rather insignificant fact, however the improvements that result form their use should not be under played.

LEDs have qualities which improve the operation and design of LCD based TVs. Firstly the light which is produced by LEDs is of a better quality when compared to that of fluorescent lights. The light is ‘whiter’ which has the effect of producing more realistic and natural colours on the display. The contrast ratios have also been increased massively meaning that very bright whites and dark blacks can now be produced.

Next, because of their small size when compared to fluorescent lamps, LEDs allow for the design of ultra thin televisions. Some of the televisions on the market are unbelievably slim, measuring approx 2.5cm in thickness.

Lastly the use LEDs have made the power hungry LCD TV in to a more eco-friendly TV. The power consumption of is said to be reduced by up to 50% when compared with equivalent plasma and LCD TVs. If this fact does not interest you then the money that is saved on electricity bills over the life of owning an LED TV should.

Though LED TVs might not exactly be what you thought they were, one way or another they have definitely raised the bar when it comes to high definition television.
